Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministry provides members of Good Shepherd with the training, resources, and ongoing support to organize and equip a team of lay caregivers called Stephen Ministers. Stephen Ministers provide confidential, Christ-centered care and support to people experiencing grief, divorce, illness, job loss, loneliness, disability, relocation, and other life difficulties. Good Shepherd has sent seven individuals to receive extensive training as Stephen Leaders, who in turn have trained fourteen individuals to serve as Stephen Ministers. Each of these Stephen Ministers has received 50 hours of Christian care-giving training. A Stephen Minister is matched with an individual in need of care. Each Stephen Minister meets with his or her care receiver for about an hour a week to provide one-to-one, Christ-centered care and support. Men are matched with men, women with women. Stephen Ministers are not lone rangers. They participate with the Stephen Leaders in twice-monthly supervision where they receive guidance and support they need to provide high-quality care. They also participate regularly in continuing education to enhance their skills and help them grow as caregivers. Our Stephen Ministers are also quite willing to serve those who are not members of Good Shepherd.

If interested in receiving a Stephen Minister, or serving as a Stephen minister, please contact Kathy Wagner or Pastor Groth.
