When children reach the middle school years, Good Shepherd begins a period of more intensive and systematic instruction in the basic tenets of the Christian faith. The sixth grade class reviews the major stories of the Bible and the doctrines they teach. The seventh grade class studies the Ten Commandments and explores how they interact with modern life. The eighth grade class concludes with a study of the six chief parts of the Small Catechism. Weekly memory work, 20 sermon notes, participation in a confirmation retreat, and at least 10 hours of varied service in the church and community are required of the 8th grade class. Each confirmand is also interviewed by multiple members of the Board of Elders. Provided they are ready, members of the 8th grade class are confirmed on Palm Sunday at the 10:30 service. These classes meet on Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00 pm, and are taught by Mr. Ron Wille, Mr. Lucas Gerlach, and Pastor David Groth. To enroll your child, please call the church office.
